Do You Need a Phone Consultation?
1. Do you need help in ordering a herpes western blot confirmatory test? Most people need a confirmatory blood antibody test for any herpes type specific test with an index value of 1.1 to 3.5. Don’t know your index value? Were you just told that your results were negative or positive? Call the location where you had your antibody testing done and find out your index value – there are many false positives in this index value range. The western blot is the best test to confirm or disconfirm these low positive test results. It can only be done at the University of Washington, and cannot be ordered through online testing services.
2. Do you need help in interpreting type specific herpes test results? Have you recently had a sexual contact and also had a recent herpes antibody test? Has the waiting period been long enough between contact and testing? Has someone ordered an IgM test for you and you wonder if you have new infection? Have you had more than one test with different results? We can help you sort out this whole confusing picture, and believe us, you aren’t the only person who is confused by herpes antibody testing.
3. Have you met someone special who has told you they have herpes? Are you wondering what the odds are that you will contract herpes from them? Are you conflicted about whether you should pursue the relationship or not? Are you sure you are not actually infected yourself? We may be able to help you sort out the questions that arise in this common situation.
4. Are you struggling with the psychological issues raised by a diagnosis of genital herpes? Do you feel anxious or depressed? Are you afraid because you think you might infect casual friends or your children? That’s a really common fear, though challenging, for sure. Maybe we can help you come up with some better coping strategies.
5. Are you and a partner having difficulty coping with this diagnosis in your relationship? Have concerns about infidelity come up? Are there issues about sexual dysfunction in your relationship related to herpes? These are common experiences, and we might be able to give you some tips that have worked for other couples in a similar situation.
